Grand Raid Altitude
Discover the challenge and scenery of the Altitude Adventure Race
After 20 years of absence, the Altitude Adventure Race makes its big return. For the occasion we are preparing a unique course between citadel, forts and mountain landscapes.
The format remains the same: 2 days orienteering and backpacking, we all meet back up at the bivouac for a night of conviviality and a delicious feast awaits you on the finish line.






The courses
Unique challenges await you on a huge IOF 1/20 000° map updated for the occasion. As a bonus, map zooms for additional orienteering challenges that will break your rhythm. You will need to juggle between speed and accuracy. To top it all, high altitude and the awe-inspiring landscapes that go with it!

Course A
Elite
Environ 35km et 2500m de D+ (10h de course sur 2 jours). Orientation de niveau très difficile, bivouac et portage du matériel.
Category: Senior (Men).

Course B
Long
Environ 30km et 2000m de D+ (8h de course sur 2 jours). Orientation de niveau difficile, bivouac et portage du matériel.
Categories: Senior (Women / Mixed), Veterans 1 (Men).

Course C
Medium
Environ 25km et 1500m de D+ (6h de course sur 2 jours). Orientation de niveau difficile, bivouac et portage du matériel.
Categories: Veterans 1 (Women / Mixed), Veterans 2 & 3 (Men / Women / Mixed), Juniors (Men / Women / Mixed).

Course D
Short
Environ 18km et 1200m de D+ (4 à 8h de course sur 2 jours). Orientation de niveau facile, bivouac mais pas de portage du matériel.

Required equipment
The mandatory kit will be fully checked when you collect your bib number and can be checked at any time during the competition. Any team with missing mandatory kit will be disqualified.
Mandatory per team
- 1 first aid kit (band-aids, paracetamol, disinfectant, compresses, double skin...)
- 1 fully charged phone with the number of the organizer
- 1 Romer grid reference tool (1/20000)
- A 2 (or 3) man tent, wind-resistant, complete with pegs.
Mandatory per person
- 1 bib, legible and unfolded (provided by the race organizers)
- 1 SPORTident chip (if you don't have one, the race organizers will lend you one)
- 1 backpack
- 1 working head lamp
- 1 whistle
- 1 compass
- 1 survival blanket
- 1 piece of waterproof clothing (jacket, vest or poncho)
- 1 piece of warm clothing (fleece or sweater)
- warm jacket (it gets cold at night at altitude)
- long trousers or tights/leggings
- 1 pair of studded shoes
- 1 sleeping bag (a survival blanket does not count as a sleeping bag)
- 1 water reserve which must allow for self-sufficiency on the course (a minimum of 1L per person, 2L in the case of a heat wave)
- Food for the duration of the race
- 1 cup (for the bar)
But try to keep it light, you're going to have to carry everything!
Specifics for the course "D – Short".
The following kit may be left with the race organizers, who will transport it for you:
- Tent
- Sleeping bag

- Food for the bivouac
- Cups for the bar
The rest of the mandatory kit must be carried by the team.
The kit dropped off with the organizers must not exceed 100L per person

Registration and fees
Registration is mandatory and can be done exclusively on Adeorun.
The registration fee of 45€ per person includes the race with one map per person, chip timing, the overnight campsite and a meal on arrival the second day.
For the non FFCO members, an insurance pass will be added depending on your course (between 5€ and 10€).

How to get there
This edition of the race starts from Montgenèvre. Montgenèvre.
By train: Directly accessible by the night train from Paris, by TER (regional train) from Valence and Marseille, and by high-speed train (TGV) from Oulx (Italy). Local busses are available from the nearest train stations.
By bus: Direct bus from Grenoble.
By car: Consider car-sharing. See access map.

Orienteering maps and control plotting
The Grand Raid Altitude Adventure Race is run on a map produced to IOF (International Orienteering Federation) standards. Such maps are much more accurate and detailed than ordinary maps.

Bivouac
A high-altitude campsite will welcome you for your short overnight stay. There will be toilets and water, but no showers: these will be awaiting you at the finish. Otherwise, you must be autonomous in the campsite; you will need to bring sleeping equipment, a stove and food (see kit list). Craft beer and lemonade will be on sale on site, so bring a credit card or cash in your backpack.

French Orienteering Adventure Race Cup
The Altitude Adventure Race is part of the French Orienteering Adventure Race Cup.
In order to qualify for the French Orienteering Adventure Race Cup, you must register in teams of 2 with the same crew on the course corresponding to your category on all the adventure races of the season. See the rules for category details.
In 2026, the other rounds are the Raid O'Bivwak and the Raid de la Vallée de la Blanche.
