Discover the challenge and scenery of the Altitude Adventure Race
After 20 years of absence, the Altitude Adventure Race makes its big return. For the occasion we are preparing a unique course between citadel, forts and mountain landscapes.
The format remains the same: 2 days in autonomy, we all meet back up at the bivouac for a night of conviviality and a delicious feast awaits you on the finish line.
The courses
Unique challenges await you on a huge IOF 1/20 000° map updated for the occasion. As a bonus, map zooms for additional orienteering challenges that will break your rhythm. You will need to juggle between speed and accuracy. To top it all off, altitude and the awe-inspiring landscapes that go with!

Course A
Elite
Approximately 40km as the bird flies and 2500m D+ (10h over 2 days). Very difficult orienteering, camping and carrying equipment.
Category: Senior (Men).

Course B
Long
Approximately 35km as the bird flies and 2000m D+ (8h over 2 days). Difficult orienteering, camping and carrying equipment.
Categories: Senior (Women / Mixed), Veterans 1 (Men).

Course C
Medium
Approximately 30km as the bird flies and 1500m D+ (6h over 2 days). Difficult orienteering, camping and carrying equipment.
Categories: Veterans 1 (Women / Mixed), Veterans 2 & 3 (Men / Women / Mixed), Juniors (Men / Women / Mixed).

Course D
Short
About 20km as the bird flies and 1200m D+ (4-8h over 2 days). Easy orienteering, camping, but no need to carry your equipment.
Categories: Open (Men / Women / Mixed).
Required equipment
The required equipment will be fully verified at the time of the recovery of the bib number and can be verified at any time of the competition. Any team will have obligatory equipment that is missing will be disqualified.
Mandatory per team
- 1 first aid kit (band-aids, paracetamol, disinfectant, compresses, double skin...)
- 1 fully charged phone with the number of the organizer
- 1 report square (1/20000)
- A 2 (or 3) man tent, wind-resistant, complete with ground fixation.
Mandatory per person
- 1 bib readable and non-folded (provided by the organization)
- 1 SPORTident chip (if you don't have one, the organization will lend you one)
- 1 backpack
- 1 head lamp in functioning state
- 1 whistle
- 1 compass
- 1 survival blanket
- 1 piece of waterproof clothing (jacket, vest or poncho)
- 1 piece of warm clothing (fleece or sweater)
- warm jacket (it gets cold at night at altitude)
- long trousers or tights
- 1 pair of studded shoes
- 1 sleeping bag (the survival blanket does not replace the sleeping bag)
- 1 water reserve which must enable the self-sufficiency on the course (a minimum of 1L per person, 2L in the case of a heat wave)
- Food for the duration of the race
- 1 cup (for the bar)
But try to stay light, you're going to have to carry everything !
Specifics for the course "D – Short".
The following equipment may be with the organizers, who will transport it :
- Tent
- Sleeping bag
- mattress
- Food for the camp
- Cups for the bar
Other required equipment must be carried by the team.
The totality of the equipment dropped off to the organisers must not exceed 100L per person
Race info
Here you will find all the information for race day. This will be completed as the race approaches.

Registration and fees
Registration is mandatory and can be done exclusively on Adeorun.
The registration fee of 45€ per person includes the adventure race with one map per person, the timing, the camp ground, and the meal at the finish line.
For the non FFCO members, an insurance pass will be added depending on your course (between 5€ and 10€).

Access
This edition will take place close to briançon (French alps).
By train: Direct access by night train from Paris in TER from Valence and Marseille by TGV and then bus via Oulx train station.
By bus: Direct access from Grenoble.

Orienteering maps and control plotting
The Altitude Adventure Race is ran on a map specially designed for the orienteering standard (IOF). It's a whole lot more precise than regular maps.
Train or print the IOF symbols and IOF definitions .
You will also need to plot your controls on the map. We are preparing a booklet.

Bivouac
You will find a high mountain atmosphere at the bivouac where you will be welcomed for a short night. You will find toilets and water but no showers, they are waiting for you warmly at the finish. For the rest, bivouac means autonomy, you will need to bring sleeping equipment, stove and meals. Craft beer and lemonade will be sold on site, so bring you card or cash in your backpack.

French Orienteering Adventure Race Cup
The Altitude Adventure Race is part of the French Orienteering Adventure Race Cup.
To be listed, you must register in teams of 2 with the same crew on the course corresponding to your category on all the adventure races of the season. See the rules for category details.
In 2026, the other rounds are the Raid O'Bivwak and the Raid de la Vallée de la Blanche.
